PHILLIPS 66 AVIATION SOARS AT NBAA 2009
ORLANDO – Defying a lighter industry turnout for this year’s National Business
Aviation Association (NBAA)Meeting & Convention, steady crowds gathered at the
Phillips 66® Aviation booth to hear “Miracle on the Hudson” First Officer Jeff
Skiles, meet representatives from 16 FBOs, qualify for bonus WingPoints®, and
earn a chance to win flatscreen televisions.
The activities kept the booth busy throughout the 62nd NBAA show, aviation’s
largest annual trade gathering. Nearly 23,000 visitors and more than 1,000
exhibitors from around the globe attended this year’s show.
Skiles spoke regularly at the Phillips 66 Aviation booth, each time captivating
a host of onlookers as he described piloting US Airways flight 1569 on takeoff
last January, when a flock of geese suddenly flew into the Airbus engines forcing
a landing on a bitterly cold Hudson River. All 150 passengers and five crew
members survived.
Wearing his First Officer’s uniform, Skiles eagerly signed autographs, easily
chatted with visitors and posed for countless photographs. He also reminisced
about his teenager days pumping avgas for a Phillips 66 Aviation FBO in Wisconsin.
Phillips 66 Aviation held a rollicking VIP customer reception at Orlando’s famous
Howl at the Moon nightclub. The party drew an enthusiastic group eager to let
loose after spending a long day touring or working the large convention hall.
Even Skiles stopped by, getting on stage to participate in the fun orchestrated
by two dueling pianists. Attendees were entered in a drawing for pre-loaded
WingPoints cards.
For NBAA’s annual charity benefit supporting Corporate Angel Network (CAN),
Phillips 66 Aviation donated a WingPoints Rewards Card worth $1,000.
The non-profit CAN eases the burden of travel for cancer patients by arranging
free flights to treatment centers using empty seats on business aircraft.
Over at Orlando Executive Airport (KORL), Showalter Flying Service, a Phillips
66 FBO, hosted NBAA’s huge static display – where the industry’s newest aircraft
were open for tour. A large crowd of pilots and aviation professionals flowed in
and out of Showalter the entire convention week.
2010 NBAA SCHEDULERS & DISPATCHERS CONFERENCE TURNOUT SKY-HIGH IN TEXAS
Phillips 66 Aviation hosts "Miracle on Hudson" 1st Officer Jeff Skiles, $1,000 WingPoints contest and a Riverwalk fiesta party
SAN ANTONIO – The professionals who book general aviation travel for corporate flight departments turned out in force for the 21st Annual Schedulers & Dispatchers (S&D), held in this picturesque Central Texas town January 27-29.
The conference – an educational resource for those who coordinate the use of business aircraft – tallied its third highest attendance ever, according to the NBAA. For some, the turnout shined hope on an industry that faced a past year filled with challenges.
Along the Phillips 66® Aviation row of branded fixed base operators, visitors got a chance to meet “Miracle on the Hudson” First Officer Jeff Skiles during the opening reception at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. Skiles chatted to each visitor that stopped by, signing photographs and sharing stories about the “Miracle” landing, his life as an aviator, and his leadership as co-chair of EAA's Young Eagles program.
Then, for the next three days, some 30 Phillips 66 dealers met a crowd of schedulers and dispatchers, sharing the many reasons why they should book corporate flights through their FBOs.
Grand Prize Winner Pays it Forward
Lisa McCabe, President of Fort Collins-Loveland jetCenter, won a drawing for a $1,000 WingPoints® Rewards Card – and promptly gave it back as a donation to NBAA CARE (Corporate Aircraft Response in Emergency) for their efforts to aid Haitian earthquake victims.
"When Bruce Youtsey (of Phillips 66) called out my name, I was thrilled to bits, as this gave me the chance to pay forward (the) generosity," explains McCabe.
WingPoints - which can be earned on aviation fuel purchases at participating Phillips 66 FBOs – can be donated to aviation-backed charities such as Angel Flight and Young Eagles. Of course, WingPoints can also be redeemed online at wingpoints.com for debit or gift cards.
On Wednesday, the Phillips Fiesta – a packed VIP reception held at Rita’s on the River – featured good old Texas line dancing, signature local food and lots of fun for the Phillips 66 FBOs and their guests.
The next Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference is expected to be held in early February 2011 in Savannah, GA. For information about attending the conference with Phillips 66 Aviation, please contact Naomi Cheatum, ConocoPhillips U.S. Marketing, at naomi.cheatum@conocophillips.com or (281) 293-3502.
