OSHKOSH, Wis. – Anchoring a marquee plaza filled with a stunning variety of military aircraft and hordes of aviation enthusiasts, ConocoPhillips’ 2011 AirVenture presence was memorable.
A gleaming silver 1938 Lockheed Electra Jr., Phillips Petroleum’s corporate plane 73 years ago, greeted visitors to the ConocoPhillips tent, where the brand’s legendary history was captured on display. Inside the tent a ConocoPhillips trivia contest, a photo booth that placed participants into historical aviation scenes, a VIP air show seating area, an FAA-certified flight simulator, and cases of Phillips 66® Aviation lube for sale proved popular.
More than half-a-million people, along with 10,000 private aircraft, an amazing collection of show planes, and a stunning variety of military aircraft – including the only flying B-29 in the world – made 2011 AirVenture unforgettable. The memories started first thing, when the EAA dedicated AirVenture’s “West Ramp” marquee attraction as ConocoPhillips Plaza in a special ceremony.
That ’38 Lockheed, owned by David Marco, ended up winning the highly coveted Antique Grand Champion award. Meanwhile, a 1949 Beech A35 – owned by Rosemary Leone, Phillips 66 Aviation’s Director of Programs Development – won the show’s Outstanding Beech award.
ConocoPhillips and the EAA also honored Young Eagles super volunteers Ginny and Richard Largent with the Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award during a special banquet, attended by Young Eagles Co-Chairs Chesley Sullenberger and Jeff Skiles.
ConocoPhillips’ legendary, 84-year-old history of aviation leadership, service and innovation – plus its longstanding support of EAA’s Young Eagles program – made for an ideal tie-in to AirVenture.
Phillips 66 Aviation and 35 of its branded dealers made a big splash at the 2011 NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference in Savannah, Ga., where the continuing growth of America’s largest FBO network and two $1,000 WingPoints® Rewards Card giveaways gave attendees plenty to talk about.
Thousands of people attended the S&D
conference,
considered the top educational event for business aviation schedulers and dispatchers,
who are responsible for coordinating executive travel to hundreds of airports and
FBOs.
Bonnie Ream of United States Aviation and Jean Porada of ROP Aviation each won a WingPoints Reward Card preloaded with 600,000 WingPoints ready for redemption.
ATLANTA – The energy seemed stronger, the smiles a little brighter at the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) 63rd Annual Meeting & Convention, as attendees embraced a forward-thinking outlook to confront a challenging marketplace.
At the Phillips 66® Aviation booth, 16 fixed base operators made a strong statement, clearly demonstrating why their branded dealer network is the nation’s best when it comes to customer service, facilities, safety and professionalism.
Free WingPoints® Rewards Card offers and a drawing
for two 3D televisions helped draw visitors to the booth. But the real enticement
was the Phillips 66 Aviation FBOs and the inviting smiles emanating from their friendly
customer service representatives, managers and owners.
Photographers from NBAA show dailies descended on the Phillips 66 Aviation booth
when ConocoPhillips joined hands with Aviation Week to present a $21,000
donation to Corporate Angel Network (CAN), which arranges some 2,500 flights a year
for cancer patients in need of medical treatment.
The FBO customer service representatives, managers, owners and their customers also
joined Phillips 66 Aviation for an Oktoberfest celebration at a downtown Atlanta
microbrewery.
Also, Captain Jeff Skiles made four booth appearances to share personal stories
about his 15,000 logged hours of flying and the famed “Miracle on the Hudson”
Flight 1549.
More than 24,000 people attended the 2010 NBAA show, up five percent from last year. The Phillips 66 Aviation FBOs stood out among an exhibitor list that nearly topped 1,100.
Children from Minneapolis, Chicago, and Payson, Ariz. descended on three Phillips 66® Aviation FBOs recently for a chance to fly with “Miracle on the Hudson” First Officer Jeff Skiles and EAA Young Eagles volunteers.
The special Phillips 66 Aviation Young Eagles rallies had kids from all walks of life beaming. Some took flight in Captain Skiles’ classic, bright red 1935 WACO Cabin. Others flew in the dozens of experimental and single-engine aircraft flown by EAA volunteers.
The special Phillips 66 Aviation Young Eagles rallies were held at J.A. Air Center at Aurora Municipal Airport near Chicago, Cirrus Flight Operations at Anoka County Airport outside Minneapolis, and Payson Aviation at Payson Airport in Northern Arizona.

LAS VEGAS – Everything was up at NBAA 2011 – attendance, the number of exhibitors, displayed aircraft, international participation – as Phillips 66® Aviation, joined by 16 of its esteemed fixed base operators (FBOs), concluded another year at what many consider the most essential convention for business aviation.
The mood was decidedly upbeat, as crowds filled the massive convention halls on opening day. More than 26,000 people attended NBAA 2011, a seven percent jump over the previous year.
“This year's Convention underscored the fact that the people and companies in business aviation are optimistic and forward-looking,” concluded Ed Bolen, President and CEO of the National Business Aviation Association.
Phillips 66 Aviation customers were also up – way up, that is, above the Las Vegas skyline for a VIP party at the acclaimed Ghostbar, a sleek indoor-outdoor nightclub on top the popular Palms casino. There the conversation and food flowed, while Phillips 66 customers mugged for photos on a patio with a stunning view of Vegas neon below.
A check ceremony at the Phillips 66 Aviation booth added $21,000 to Corporate Angel Network (CAN). It was part of an advertising program co-sponsored by ConocoPhillips to recognize corporate flight departments that work with CAN to provide empty seats on corporate aircraft for cancer patients seeking life-saving medical treatment. The next day at the NBAA/CAN Charity Benefit, 1,000 gallons of Phillips 66 jet fuel was auctioned off as part of a night that raised $220,000 to help CAN’s mission.
At the booth, shared by the 16 FBOs, convention attendees got chances to win iPads, bonus WingPoints®, die-cast models of the famous Lockheed Electra Jr., and other merchandise. A Vegas-style WingPoints Prize Wheel took many spins during the convention’s three days.
Next up: NBAA’s 23rd Annual Schedulers & Dispatchers (S&D) Conference, January 15-18 in San Diego. We’ll see you there!
SAN DIEGO – With a record-setting exhibitor count, NBAA’s 2012 Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference supplied an energizing setting to begin a year-long celebration of Phillips 66® Aviation’s 85th year.
The Phillips 66 Aviation team joined 24 of its branded fixed base operators during the 2012 S&D – where attendance was up 11 percent over the previous year.
Carol Lehman from the Kohler Company in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, won the grand prize at the Phillips 66 Aviation booth, a WingPoints® Rewards Card loaded with a thousand dollars’ worth of points. S&D visitors who stopped by eight Phillips 66 Aviation FBOs got a watch and an entry for the WingPoints drawing. The runner-up was Michelle Lussier, with CVS Caremark, who took home a basket filled with California wine.
The Phillips 66 FBO teams celebrated with a customer party and an 85th birthday bash at Croce’s, the famous jazz bar and restaurant that honors singer-songwriter Jim Croce, who penned #1 Billboard hits. Restaurateur Ingrid Croce, Jim’s widow, stopped by to meet everyone and share stories.
NBAA officials said the success of the 2012 S&D points to a turnaround for general aviation.
Supporting a strong line-up of special guests and events, Phillips 66®
Aviation added excitement to a bustling AirVenture 2010 in Oshkosh. Phillips 66,
building on an 82-year-old brand heritage that has fueled some of aviation’s
crowning moments, brought along “Miracle on the Hudson” First Officer
Jeff Skiles and his vintage 1935 WACO Cabin aircraft; provided jet fuel to power
an appearance by the world’s only privately owned and flown Sea Harrier; and
honored a passionate Young Eagles volunteer during a special ceremony led by Skiles
and “Miracle” Pilot Chesley Sullenberger.
Skiles and his beautifully restored 1935 WACO Cabin airplane drew crowds of admirers.
Aviation fans and their families got a chance to meet Jeff at the Phillips 66 Aviation
Lubricants booth, where he signed autographs and regaled the crowds with the spellbinding
story about US Airways Flight 1549.
Dallas recreational pilot Jim Quinn earned this year’s Phillips 66 Aviation
Leadership Award during the special Young Eagles Awards ceremony, anchored
Sullenberger and Skiles. A decade ago, Quinn seized a chance to revive a Young Eagles
program in Dallas, making it easier for volunteer pilots to bring the wonders of
flight to Texas children. Since then, more than 1,000 kids have gone flying, thanks
to Quinn and the volunteers from EAA Chapter 168.
Powered by Phillips 66 Aviation fuel, Art Nalls’ Sea Harrier captivated fans
during exhilarating exhibitions at AirVenture 2010. Nalls showed off the Harrier’s
stunning climbing speed and hovering capabilities, even making the fighter “moonwalk”
before dipping its nose to take a bow.
