Phillips 66® Aviation News
Phillips 66 Aviation is pleased to announce that it will provide its branded aviation
dealers with NATA’s Safety 1st PLST Online line service training. Through
a proprietary Phillips 66/NATA web portal, Phillips- branded dealers will have access
to this industry-recognized training program.
“The ConocoPhillips Company takes safety seriously. We are excited to be able
to provide this industry-recognized professional line service training program to
our branded dealers,” says Rod Palmer, Manager of General Aviation for Phillips
66 Aviation. “Our dealers and their staff can now become Safety 1st Certified
at little or no cost to them.”
Dealers will be allocated a number of training courses, depending on their size.
“We have tailored the number of courses paid for by Phillips 66 Aviation to
fit the needs of each FBO,” explained Palmer. “Larger dealers have more
employees, and thus, will receive a larger number of courses provided by Phillips
66.” If an FBO needs additional training courses over and above its allocation,
additional courses can be purchased at a special subsidized rate.
Originally developed in the late 1990s as a popular video program, NATA began offering
it online in 2008. The eight-module curriculum covers ground servicing, safety,
general fuel handling, general aircraft towing, fuel farm management, customer service,
and aviation security. The course also includes PLST Online fire safety training
and certification meeting 14 CFR Part 139 Section 321 fire training requirements.
Training is online and can be taken at the students own pace. Students must complete
the online training, hands-on and practical exam requirements in order to receive
Safety 1st certification and uniform patch.
“Phillips 66 Aviation is making a phenomenal investment in a large number
of their branded FBOs’ employees by providing the training,” said NATA
President James K. Coyne, “this endeavor is just one demonstration of the
strong commitment to safety that is such an admirable quality of Phillips 66 Aviation.”
NATA and Phillips 66 expect to begin offering access to training through a proprietary
NATA/Phillips 66 web portal before the end of summer.

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. – On the shores of one of the world’s top-ranked fresh-water fishing lakes, Guntersville Municipal Airport (8A1) and its expanding seaplane facility is now a Phillips 66 Aviation®-branded dealer.
Guntersville Airport, surrounded by 69,000 acres of blue water, is famous as a floatplane base and its access to the sprawling Guntersville Mountain Lakes region, 30 minutes outside Huntsville, Ala.
Few fixed base operators (FBOs) accommodate floatplanes. But Guntersville Municipal, also known as Joe Starnes Field, embraces the unique aircraft. The FBO, which recently held the Guntersville Splash-In seaplane event, is in the midst of an expansion, with plans to add a 90-foot “U-shaped” dock capable of accommodating six seaplanes at a time. A wrap-around beach area will offer 250 feet of floatplane coverage.

NATA is pleased to announce that Phillips 66 Aviation has provided introductory membership in NATA to its branded dealers that are currently not NATA members. This effort allows these dealers the opportunity to experience all the benefits of NATA membership, while supporting the national association.
“We believe it is important to have a strong, national organization representing the interests of the general aviation industry and our branded dealers. Supporting NATA is one way of ensuring a strong legacy” said Rod Palmer, Manager of General Aviation for Phillips 66 Aviation. The Phillips 66 Aviation dealers will be able to take advantage of NATA’s advocacy efforts, be informed of developments in the industry via NATA’s member publications and be able to participate in NATA’s money-saving benefit programs such as Workers’ Compensation insurance.
“NATA applauds Phillips 66 Aviation for recognizing the importance of a strong national association and we look forward to working with them and their constituents for years to come,” said NATA President, Jim Coyne.
BROADHEAD, Wisc. – Near a grass runway in rural Wisconsin sits a restored, bright red, 1935 WACO biplane, newly painted with a logo as familiar to aviators as the owner of that vintage aircraft is to cable news viewers.
With his antique biplane, Jeff Skiles – First Officer for the famous “Miracle on the Hudson” flight – is returning to his roots in aviation, where he started as a 16-year-old pumping Phillips 66® Aviation avgas into single-engine planes.
The Wisconsin-based pilot is flying for Phillips 66 this summer and fall, the brand’s white, winged logo standing out against the WACO’s red fuselage. Skiles will attend fly-ins, EAA and aviation events with his plane, plus continue other appearances for Phillips 66.
“I guess I’ve come full circle with my aviation career,” says Skiles. “I like the idea of flying a vintage airplane decorated with the legendary logo from a brand that was part of my initiation into aviation.”
Skiles’ reunited with Phillips 66 last fall, when the venerable aviation brand invited the famous first officer to regale the crowds at the National Business Association of Aviation’s (NBAA) annual conference. His harrowing and frank account, peppered with Skiles’ wry Midwestern humor, delighted the NBAA attendees and inspired a brainstorming effort to see how Phillips 66 might support the pilot’s role as co-chairman of EAA’s Young Eagles program this year.
A lifetime of preparation as pilots, explains Skiles, helped he and Captain Chelsey Sullenberger save a plane-load of passengers from disaster when a gaggle of geese hit the engines of US Airways flight #1549 on a cold January day in 2009. It makes sense, says Skiles, that he and his vintage plane fly for a brand known as “The Most Trusted Wings in Aviation.”
“Flying is a serious job with serious responsibilities,” Skiles reflects. “You have to be on top of your game at all times, because you have a responsibility to the people in the back of the plane. You never know what moment your entire career, your entire life could be judged.”
"Phillips 66 is delighted to have Skiles flying the brand colors and logo on his classic 1935 WACO," says Rod Palmer, General Manager, Aviation, ConocoPhillips. “Phillips 66 has a storied history in aviation, sponsoring pilot explorers like Art Goebel in his victorious 1927 Dole Pineapple Race across the Pacific and Wiley Post on his record-setting 55,000-foot altitude record in 1934. We are honored to partner with Jeff Skiles, a consummate, professional pilot who embodies the idea of trust.”
For Skiles, flying with the wings logo keeps fresh the memories of a long-ago summer, when he pumped fuel from Phillips 66® Aviation tanker trucks shimmering in the sun and dreamt of being a pilot. Now, some 20,000 logged flight hours later, Skiles is eager to share his enthusiasm for aviation.
“People get the aviation bug when they see me pull up in that 1935 WACO cabin,” says Skiles.

Program will help some 4,000 missions a year that fly seriously ill children, adults to critically needed medical care
HOUSTON, April 26 – A pioneering rebate program, designed to support pilots that volunteer their aircraft and time to fly seriously ill patients who need specialized medical treatments, is being launched by Phillips 66® Aviation.
Starting June 1, pilots flying missions organized and approved by Angel Flight Northeast and Mercy Medical Airlift (which administers Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic and Airlift Hope America) will qualify for a $1-per-gallon rebate on fuel purchased using Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Credit Card at a Phillips 66 Aviation branded FBO. There are more than 713 Phillips 66 FBOs across the country.
The program, a first for general aviation, could initially support more than 1,600 active pilots that fly these critically important flights in the Northeast United States.
“These missions mean so much to critically ill children, adults and their families,” explains Jim Smith, Executive Director, Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic and Airlift Hope America. “It takes a generous commitment of time and finances from volunteer pilots. With the cost of avgas what it is, the Phillips 66 compassion Flight Fuel Rebate could make the difference in whether or not a pilot flies that extra, crucial mission for us.”
The rebate applies to avgas purchased from a Phillips 66 Aviation dealer and paid with a Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Credit Card. The rebate is applied as a credit to the pilots Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Credit Card account.
“Through this program, Phillips 66 Aviation is saying to these volunteer pilots, ‘we recognize your value, we appreciate your efforts and we support you,’” says Rod Palmer, Manager of Aviation for Phillips 66. “If it encourages more pilots to volunteer or take more medical flights, then we’ll consider this program a success.”
Fuel rebate eligibility requirements include:
- Volunteer pilot must be a member of a charitable organization approved by Phillips 66® Aviation to participate in this program. For 2010, approved charities include Angel Flight Northeast, and Mercy Medical Airlift administered Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic and Airlift Hope America.
- Rebate applies to avgas purchased on the Phillips 66® Aviation Personal Credit Card at Phillips 66-branded FBOs. It does not apply to purchases of jet fuel, motor fuel or other fuel brands. Pilot can apply online for a Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Credit Card at phillips66aviation.com/personalcard.aspx.
- Rebate applies to avgas purchased to fly a mission coordinated and approved by a charitable organization participating in this Program.
- Volunteer pilot must complete the Claim Form and submit it to CitiBank with the original or a copy of the credit card receipt(s). The Claim Form can be obtained from the charities approved by Phillips 66 Aviation to participate in this program.
- Claim Form with all documentation must be submitted within 90 days of actual flight date.
- The $1-per-gallon rebate will be applied by CitiBank to the pilot’s Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Credit Card balance within 2-3 billing cycles of receipt of the completed Claim Form.
Angel Flight Northeast volunteer pilots have flown more than 53,000 children and adults over eight million miles, explains Larry Camerlin, President and Volunteer Pilot for the group, based at Lawrence Municipal Airport in Andover, Mass. Many patients come from rural areas, he says, without access to the hospitals and care they need to survive.
“These flights can make a tremendous difference in the quality of life for these patients and their families,” says Camerlin. “This is a remarkable gesture on the part of Phillips 66. They recognized the need, the countless flights, plus the expense our volunteers take on to help thousands of patients.”
Compassion Flight rebates from Phillips 66 start June 1. For more information, contact Angel Flight Northeast at 978-794-6868, or visit AngelFlightNE.org; Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic, 800-296-3797, or visit AngelFlightMidAtlantic.org; Airlift Hope America, 800-325-8908, or visit AirliftHope.org. SAN ANTONIO – What do you do when you work for an aviation industry battling politics, stagnate business travel and a subdued economy and you happen to win a $1,000 prize during a trade conference?
Well, if you're Lisa McCabe - who won a coveted $1,000 WingPoints® Rewards Card from Phillips 66® Aviation during the recent 21st Annual Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference in San Antonio – you give it away.
McCabe could have redeemed those WingPoints for debit or gift cards online at wingpoints.com. WingPoints can be earned on aviation fuel purchases at participating Phillips 66 FBOs.
Instead, McCabe, President of Fort Collins-Loveland jetCenter, promptly donated the $1,000 WingPoints card to NBAA CARE (Corporate Aircraft Response in Emergency) for their efforts to aid Haitian earthquake victims.
"When Bruce Youtsey of Phillips 66 called out my name, I was thrilled to bits, as this gave me the chance to pay forward their generosity," explained McCabe
McCabe's gift may surprise some, but donations are something Phillips 66 planned for when it introduced WingPoints in 2008. The rewards program makes it simple to donate points online to charities such as EAA’s Young Eagles or Angel Flight.
The 2010 S&D conference – an educational resource for those who coordinate the use of business aircraft – tallied its third highest attendance ever, according to the NBAA.
SPOKANE, Wash. – XN Air (KGEG) is offering up to 5,000 bonus WingPoints® from Phillips 66® Aviation for flights from Spokane International Airport to Vancouver for the 2010 winter games.

For a minimum fuel purchase, XN Air will provide complimentary onsite TSA security and baggage handling in its new, multi-million dollar executive terminal.
The Phillips 66 Aviation fuel dealer can also coordinate clearance and aircraft support to meet Canadian entry requirements. A Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) is on staff to provide clearance for larger aircraft.

Serving sporting events, fans and teams has become part of XN’s regular business. Gonzaga bases DC-9 charter at XN to support its men’s and women’s collegiate basketball teams. During the recent national figure skating contest held in Spokane, the FBO also hosted dozens of aircraft from around the country.
Traffic to XN Air has also increased since the FBO opened its new executive terminal, says Hale, while the new in-terminal restaurant has proven to be a draw.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Sixty underprivileged children flew to the North Pole in December for an evening of enchantment put on in part by XN Air (KGEG) at Spokane International Airport.
The Phillips 66® Aviation dealer transformed its hangar into the North Pole for some wide-eyed kids who flew in on a special Alaska Airlines flight – all organized by Northwest North Pole Adventures, a group of volunteers, donors and sponsors who each year provide magical trips to the North Pole for children from Spokane and Coeur d’Alene-area shelters.
XN Air provided aircraft and ramp support for the flight, plus logistics and hangar support for the North Pole.
Santa and his volunteer elves were on hand to visit the children – most of whom were making their first flight in an airplane, let alone their first journey to the North Pole.
“It’s an enchanting evening, full of surprises for some kids who really deserve a little holiday cheer,” says Alan Hale, President of XN Air. “The idea is to share the magic of believing, while giving children something to smile wide about. Everyone at XN Air really enjoys being able to help Spokane Fantasy Flight host this wonderful event.”

ORLANDO - As a teenager, Jeffrey Skiles spent his summers daydreaming of flying, as he worked pumping avgas into single-engine planes, the sun’s rays bouncing off the simmering, concrete tarmac and burnished Phillips 66® Aviation tanker trucks.
Those runway dreams - along with 20,000 logged flight hours, a flock of geese and some unflappable pilot skills - turned a fuel lineman into the most famous First Officer in aviation, an honor Phillips 66 Aviation will commemorate when they host Skiles at the 62nd Annual National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Meeting & Convention in Orlando, October 20-22.
Far from the summer heat of a Madison, Wisconsin airport job, it was a cold January day in Manhattan when that gaggle of geese struck the engines of US Airways flight #1549, forcing Skiles and Captain Chesley Sullenberger to scuttle a cabin full of passengers onto a frigid Hudson River. When all 150 passengers and five crew members walked out alive onto the wings of the slowly sinking Airbus A320, the incident - dubbed the "Miracle on the Hudson" - capped a lifetime of preparation for Skiles.
"Perhaps it’s fitting that by paying tribute to Jeff Skiles, a former airport line person, we’re bringing a notable flying career around full circle to its beginnings," says Rod Palmer, Manager, General Aviation, ConocoPhillips.
Phillips 66 Aviation will host Skiles during "meet and greet" sessions at the Phillips 66 Aviation booth during the NBAA Convention. Skiles will also be the guest of honor during a special customer reception.
A lineman’s destiny
"Pumping avgas was probably the best time I had in aviation," says Skiles. "Everything is possibilities; you’re not faced with a lot of reality, you don’t have to manage all of these commitments. You’re young, a teenager, you’ve got a job, you’re doing something you really like, and you’re learning how to fly."
As a 16-year-old, Skiles says he dreamt of flying and little else before earning his pilot’s license, followed by a commercial license and then an instructor’s rating. Along the way he taught others to be pilots, then he flew cargo and commuter planes before US Airways hired him in 1986.
That day on the Hudson may have been Skiles’ destiny, but perhaps it was the genetics from two pilot parents that drove him toward aviation. "Dad was a pilot, a college professor who had a private pilot license and an airplane," explains Skiles. "I’ve been interested in aviation my whole life and not really interested in anything else."
His dad flew often, taking young Jeffrey with him over inspirational sights like Alaska’s famous Alcan Highway. Eventually Skiles landed a line job at Frickelton Aviation in Madison.
"I used to pump gas out of the white trucks with the red Phillips 66 logo on the side," Skiles remembers.
Those days of youthful innocence seem a long way from being First Officer on a commercial flight with near-fatal engine failure. But Skiles credits the successful outcome to a lifetime of preparation.
"It’s like a close shave in a car, and that’s when we as pilots go to work," Skiles explains. "There is an advantage to having real strict procedures and training, so that in any situation we know the process, we have a framework. That day we knew what to do because Sully and I had the framework that allowed us to solve the problem.
"I’ve come to realize the importance of being a professional," Skiles reflects. "Flying is a serious job with serious responsibilities. You have to be on top of your game at all times, because you have a responsibility to the people in the back of the plane. You never know what moment your entire career, your entire life could be judged.
"Who would have thought that one sunny day in January we’d be forced to land on a river?"
Just a regular guy
Skiles is the only crew member of Flight 1549 to return to work.
Though Skiles used to captain for US Airways, being a senior first officer gives him flexibility to pursue other aviation interests - such as spending time in Washington serving as vice chair of government affairs for an airline pilots association.
A vintage, red 1935 cabin biplane Skiles recently purchased is stoking his curiosity in antique airplanes. "It looks like the Phillips 66 Aviation colors," he says.
And come next year, Skiles will lend his leadership skills to the EAA as co-chair of Young Eagles, which has introduced more than 1.3 million youths to the joys of flying. (Phillips 66 Aviation recently doubled its long-time fuel rebate for volunteer pilots who take Young Eagles flying through the end of 2009.)
Of course, this self-dubbed ordinary guy is also a celebrity, in demand as a speaker who can humbly describe the drama of Flight 1549. "Sully and I are just a couple of regular guys put into this huge media maelstrom with all the things that came out of it," says Skiles. "You’re a regular person one day, just Jeff Skiles, and the next they are calling you a hero of the Hudson, and life is suddenly very different. Still, nothing changes around the house."
Despite the attention, Skiles continues to credit his pilot and crew’s intense preparation, training, teamwork and adaptability for averting a tragedy. "Life changes all around you, and if you can’t adapt and change with it, you can’t succeed," Skiles believes.
"There are just a whole lot of people that made it happen, not just Sully, not just me, but the crew, the flight attendants in the back, the air traffic controller, then all the boats, the helicopters with frogman jumping into water, all the first responders on the ferry, the people with the boats, even the passengers themselves were a great asset that day," Skiles says.
Not to mention a former avgas fuel pumper from Wisconsin.

HOUSTON - Nebraska fixed base operator Trego-Dugan Aviation has joined the Phillips 66® Aviation network, the companies have announced. There are now 12 Nebraska FBO's in the Phillips 66 Aviation dealer network.
Known as "FBO of the Plains," Trego-Dugan has carved out a strong national reputation operating FBO's in North Platte (LBF) and Grand Island (GRI). The 40-year-old company also operates several charter jets in conjunction with Trego-Dugan Jet Management in Wheeling, Ill. (PWK).
Consistent, friendly customer service and a passion for safety has led to four decades of success for Trego-Dugan, explains Rod Palmer, General Manager Aviation, Phillips 66. "Trego-Dugan is family-owned with a dedicated Midwestern work ethic, and they work hard to win your business every day," Palmer says. "We are proud to have Trego-Dugan join our Phillips 66 Aviation network."
Trego-Dugan was founded in 1970 by President Gary Trego. While it originated as a truly family operated FBO, it has grown into a much larger entity. In addition to its FBO’s in North Platte and Grand Island, Trego-Dugan offers a basket of aviation services, including jet management for private owners, turbine charter, aircraft acquisition, jet and turboprop maintenance, avionics and other FBO services. Trego's daughter, Traci Dugan, is Director of Operations, overseeing the operation of eight turbine aircraft. When not in the office, Traci flies a Learjet 45 for the company.
Two key factors led Trego-Dugan management to change fuel suppliers to Phillips 66 Aviation, according to Trego's son-in-law Vince Dugan, the FBO's Vice President and General Counsel: A reliable, secure fuel source and Phillips' dealer support program - one that includes the WingPoints™ Rewards Card, the Phillips 66 Aviation Corporate Card and a flexible customer service approach.
"We have a national reputation as a mid-continent fuel stop, and we're known for high-quality service and aggressive pricing," says Dugan. "Phillips 66 gives us the ability to easily reward our loyal customers through the WingPoints program."
WingPoints rewards repeat purchases by giving points for refueling at participating Phillips 66 dealers. Every gallon purchased using WingPoints earns at least 10 points, which can be immediately redeemed for debit or gift cards online at www.wingpoints.com.
As part of its re-branding as a Phillips 66 dealer, Trego-Dugan is offering double WingPoints to all participating pilots for the remainder of 2009. Some restrictions apply. For more information about Trego-Dugan Aviation, visit: www.trego-dugan.com

- Phillips 66® Aviation Honors Extraordinary Effort with its 2009 Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award
-
-
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Robert "Butch" Bejna is on a mission, some might say a calling from the skies above, to inspire America’s young folk with the joys of flying. More than 1,500 flights later - and an equal number of youths - Bejna’s unrelenting efforts to keep general aviation soaring for generations to come has earned him the coveted Phillips 66® Aviation Leadership Award for 2009.
He did it all in his two seat, single-engine Cessna 150, one young person at a time.
For the past 16 years, Bejna has seen to it that hundreds of Midwestern youths experience flight - most for the first time. To say this humble Young Eagles volunteer is dedicated to nurturing general aviation would be an understatement.
It’s an accomplishment that was honored at the world’s largest fly-in, EAA’s AirVenture, the annual rite of flight for some 500,000 attendees here in Oshkosh. A regular AirVenture volunteer, Bejna joined an exclusive group of past Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award winners, taking the podium during a special awards ceremony. And if the award wasn’t enough, the Addison, Illinois resident even got to meet a fellow pilot by the name of Harrison Ford, EAA’s Honorary Chairman.
"Butch is a rare individual, an aviator who can’t wait to share his enthusiasm for general aviation, investing time and money to thrill young people by flying them over Chicago and Lake Michigan," says Rod Palmer, Manager, General Aviation for Phillips 66. "It is people like Butch, and thousands of other Young Eagle volunteers, who help ensure that general aviation has new crop of pilots, ground crew and airport managers for years to come."
Despite the high praise, Bejna seems almost surprised by the Phillips 66 award. "When they called about it, I didn’t know how to respond, I was taken aback," Bejna says softly. "As long as there are kids, I’ll just keep flying."
"People these days take too much for granted about life, they talk about it more than they take action, and they are not discovering things," he explains. "When you go up, flying is a discovery. You learn something new every time, you get to see things in a new way."
EAA’s Young Eagle Program was launched in 1992 with a goal to introduce young people between eight and 17 to general aviation. Since then more than 1.3 million youths have gone flying, thanks to Young Eagles.
More than 4,000 volunteer pilots have taken over 350,000 of those young people flying with the help of a Phillips 66 Aviation Fuel Rebate Program. Beginning August 1, Phillips 66 is doubling its aviation fuel rebate to Young Eagles volunteer pilots through the end of the year, offering a $2 rebate for every gallon of avgas purchased using the Phillips 66 Aviation Personal card to introduce young people to the joys of flight. Young Eagles members can visit phillips66aviation.com for rebate forms and more details.
Bejna has flown all kinds of young people in his Cessna, from special needs youths to the underprivileged and most have never been in an airplane before. With the wing on top of that Cessna, those lucky enough to soar with this Young Eagles volunteer get to look straight down on their own Chicago-area neighborhoods. It’s an eye-opening experience, says Bejna.
He flies his young passengers over Wrigley Field, Navy Pier, Chicago skyscrapers and the United Center, where some ask if they’ll be able to see Michael Jordan outside. "A lot of the inner city kids could just not believe what they see," he says. "They see just how big Lake Michigan is and say ‘Look at all the water out there.’ There’s a lot they’ve never imagined seeing before."
And young people really take to it, Bejna says, "until you hit a bump up in the air."
"He is one of those volunteers you can count on to do anything you ask him," explains Michelle Kunes, Young Eagles Program Administrator for the EAA. "He is not only competent, but will do it with a great attitude."
Bejna started flying at the age of 16, inspired he says by his aviator father and stories from other pilots. "I’ve known a lot of older pilots that are no longer with us and I was inspired hearing their stories," explains Bejna, "like in 1924 when the Douglas World Cruisers went around the world, and of course Charles Lindbergh’s historic solo flight."
He’s flown the same airplane for 16 years, mostly out of Schaumburg Regional Airport west of Chicago’s O’Hare where he volunteers for Young Eagles Chapter 101. He joined Young Eagles in 1996, spending his own money for all those Young Eagle flight rallies. Bejna also flies with the famed Tuskegee Airmen, a non-profit group that honors the history of African-Americans who participated in air crew, ground crew and operations support training for the United States Air Corps during World War II.
"It’s a lot of fun and the people I work with are fun," Bejna says. "But it’s the kids that make it worthwhile. I remember one kid, quiet during whole flight, not saying a word, and I wondered if everything was okay. But after the flight, I saw that he was actually sketching on a piece of paper all that he saw, downtown Chicago, everything."
Another boy Bejna introduced to flight now pilots medical charters in King Air jets over the Hawaiian Islands.
"I sort of grew up as the airport kid," Bejna says. "Now all the airports have fences around them. A lot of people can’t believe we do this for nothing, but it’s important to know where the future of general aviation is going. We’re going to need pilots and ground crew, and hopefully this sparks some interest among young people."

- Fuel rebate has helped more than 350,000 young people go airborne

-
HOUSTON - Phillips 66® Aviation is doubling its aviation fuel rebate to all EAA Young Eagles volunteer pilots beginning August 1st through December 31st, offering a $2 rebate for every gallon of avgas purchased using the Phillips 66 Aviation Personal card to introduce young people to the joys of flight.
More than 350,000 youths have experienced the wonders of aviation with the help of the Phillips 66 Aviation Fuel Rebate Program - and some 4,000 dedicated pilots who volunteered their time, planes and enthusiasm. Pilots using the Phillips 66 rebate have been responsible for almost a quarter of the nearly 1.5 million youths who have gone flying with the Young Eagles program.
"We have a continuing commitment to spread our excitement about general aviation to the nation’s youth," explains Rod Palmer, General Manager, Phillips 66 Aviation. "We greatly appreciate the volunteers who make the Young Eagles program possible. We hope the Phillips 66 Aviation Young Eagles Rebate helps encourage pilots to keep flying for this important effort because, in many ways, the future of general aviation depends upon it."
To qualify for the special $2 rebate use your Phillips 66 Aviation Personal Card to purchase avgas fuel from a Phillips 66 FBO for a scheduled Young Eagles flight. Pilots must also be a member of EAA, and submit a receipt or receipt copy with a completed Young Eagles rebate form.
Pilots visiting EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 22-August 2) can stop by the Phillips 66 Aviation tent for more information. Or visit phillips66aviation.com for rebate forms and more details.
EAA’s Young Eagles Program was launched in 1992 with a goal to introduce young people between eight and 17 to general aviation. Actor and avid pilot Harrison Ford is the Young Eagle’s Chairman. Ford regularly attends EAA AirVenture - often to present the annual Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award to an outstanding EAA volunteer. This year’s Leadership Award will be announced July 29 at the EAA AirVenture Museum’s Eagle Hangar in Oshkosh.

- Phillips 66® FBO stars in new Johnny Depp film
-
-
OSHKOSH, Wis. - John Dillinger survived a rollicking multi-state crime spree and raucous shoot-outs with police, but the ramp at the legendary Basler Flight Services proved too much for the notorious bank robber.
Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp in the new "Public Enemies" film, was arrested the minute he stepped out of a 1930’s Ford Tri-Motor onto the concrete at Oshkosh’s Basler. And it wasn’t because anyone at the fixed base operator tipped off the Feds. "He’s no enemy of ours," laughs Mary Garcia, General Manager, Basler Flight Services.
Director Michael Mann took over Basler’s main terminal for a pivotal scene in the movie, starring Depp, Christian Bale as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s unrelenting Melvin Purvis, and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard as Dillinger’s alluring girlfriend.
Basler, a longtime Phillips 66® Aviation dealer, is known more for providing general aviation services to the world’s largest annual fly-in than for making Hollywood movies. "It was an undertaking," Garcia explains. "When you’re used to providing Phillips 66 fuel and aviation services for AirVenture Oshkosh - where upwards of 700,000 people descend every July to celebrate general aviation - hosting a complicated movie production is something we can pull off. Still, it was a long process."
Scouting for the site began 16 months before the movie was to be released, Garcia explains. "It’s sort of funny because they came in, looked around at our front hangar and said ‘Hey, this will work out perfectly,’ and then they basically changed the whole façade of the building," explains Garcia.
It took two weeks of production magic to turn back the clock, transforming Basler’s hangar into a 1930s terminal at Chicago’s Midway Airport.
By the time cameras started rolling, Basler had hundreds of extras and crew members rolling about their terminal, and trailers upon trailers full of lighting equipment, food, film supplies and cast quarters parked everywhere around the FBO.
Basler closed down its ramp during the shoot, but the airport remained open, flights continued in and out, and the FBO kept refueling planes, Garcia says. It was a feat Garcia credits to Basler’s notable history of providing Phillips 66 Aviation fuel to thousands of planes every year during AirVenture’s enormous, week-long airshow.
In the scene, Depp lands in an authentic Ford Tri-Motor, leased from the EAA and temporarily re-painted to look like a commercial plane from 1933. The plane taxis over to Basler’s hangar - sporting a spiffy new look as a bustling depression-era airport - where the FBI and Melvin Purvis await to arrest the criminal-turned folk hero.
It took two days of filming on the closed set to finalize the scene, says Garcia, then another nine days to clean up the area and Basler’s hangar.
Basler Flight Service has been a full-service aviation refueler since 1957, headquartered at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) in mid-state Wisconsin. It’s run Basler Airlines, an on-demand cargo airline, for the past 52 years. A division of the FBO, Basler Turbo Conversions, turns DC-3’s into Basler Turbo-67s, transforming what Fortune magazine once called "The travel product of the century" into modern aviation workhorses.
No matter what the critics eventually write, Garcia says "Public Enemies" will be a hit for the 63,000 people living in Oshkosh. "When is something like that ever going to happen around here again?" asks Garcia. "Would I do it all over? Yes, but I’d be a little wiser on certain aspects."

- ROCHESTER, N.Y. - USAirports Flight Support, the sole fixed based operator at Rochester International Airport (ROC), has entered into a new, five-year fuel supply agreement with Ascent Aviation Group, Inc.
-
-
As Phillips 66® Aviation’s largest general aviation fuel marketer, Ascent has been supplying Jet A and 100LL to USAirports since 2000.
USAirports recently acquired the facilities of Landmark Aviation in Rochester to become the sole provider of General Aviation services and fuel at the airport. USAirports has been a Phillips 66 Aviation Performance Center for seven years, providing a full range of flight services and amenities, in addition to offering its own charter fleet and full-time pilots.
"USAirports has always provided exemplary facilities, equipment and personnel to aviators based in and visiting Rochester," says Darren Fuller, Executive Vice-President of Ascent Aviation Group. "We are excited to be able to continue supplying Phillips 66 fuel to a quality FBO like USAirports."
This spring, Ascent extended its marketing agreement to represent the Phillips 66 Aviation brand in 27 states stretching coast-to-coast. One of the nation’s primary aviation fuel marketers, Ascent supplies more than 200 branded Phillips 66 FBOs.
"Retaining long-term relationships with FBOs is a forte of Ascent Aviation Group," says Rod Palmer, Manager General Aviation for Phillips 66. "Forging new fuel contracts with current customers speaks volumes about Ascent’s customer service and supply management skills."

- Known for its quality assurance programs, marketer provides Phillips 66® Aviation fuels throughout the Great Lakes region
-
-
SALINE, Mich. - Arrow Energy, the Great Lakes fuels marketer for Phillips 66® Aviation, celebrated a significant milestone recently - its 20th year providing fuel and quality assurance programs to fixed base operators. And they did it without having voicemail.
"We don’t have an automated system, someone picks up the phone immediately," says Tom Buhr, Arrow’s Aviation Fuel Sales Manager. "Personal service is still alive, and it’s one of our strengths."
The Arrow team celebrated the landmark anniversary by holding a party for friends, family and vendors. Founded in 1989 by Craig Faiman, Arrow’s President, the company supplies Jet A and 100LL fuel to 52 Phillips 66-branded FBOs across seven states in the Great Lakes region, serving airports from Detroit to Cincinnati and Kansas City to St. Paul. Arrow’s customers also include corporate flight departments, flight for life operations, agricultural sprayers and specialty airlines.
Phillips 66’s Rod Palmer, General Manager Aviation, and Steven Bajema, Account Manager, were on hand to congratulate Faiman and his team for their notable achievement.
Three things make Arrow successful, according to Buhr. "Working hard, watching expenses and being loyal," Buhr explains. "We’re loyal to our employees and our customers, who in return are loyal to our company. Loyalty has been a real benchmark for everything we do."
Part of that equation, says Buhr, goes beyond just bringing fuels to the table. It’s about adding value to the brand relationship. "Because we’re a smaller company, we can be more flexible, such as with contract terms or our ability to split loads between two or three customers," explains Buhr. "Being flexible, paying attention to detail and providing that personal touch is what we do best."
Strong quality control programs help Arrow differentiate itself from the competition, says Buhr. "We don’t cut corners," he adds
That commitment matches well with Phillips 66 Aviation’s longstanding reputation as a refiner of high-quality fuels and quality assurance training. "We have a full-time quality control director and we spend a lot of time providing support," Buhr says proudly. "We give our customers the knowledge, then help them follow through with that knowledge. If a customer calls with a quality control concern, Arrow offers hands-on, immediate access to legitimate quality control."
Buhr says the current personnel at Arrow place the fuels marketer in position to grow farther and faster than ever. "My opinion is that this is the best group collectively, with the best focus, that I’ve had the privilege of working with," Buhr says.
Arrow’s list of services is extensive, offering credit card processing, excess liability insurance, customer service training, tank and truck financing, fuel pumping systems and into-plane contract fueling. For more information on Arrow Energy, visit www.arrowenergy.com.

- Are you a Participating WingPoints FBO?
-
-
When nearly 20,000 pilots across the nation opened their home mail recently, they saw a real live WingPoints® Reward Card and a special promotional offer for registering and using card by July 15 - a bonus of 1,000 points.
Phillips 66® Aviation is promoting the WingPoints card as a way to help drive business for its dealers. The special mailer highlights the great rewards pilots can earn using WingPoints, along with how fast and flexible the program is.
For Phillips 66 dealers, this is a great time to participate in WingPoints and leverage a large promotional campaign that is reaching thousands of pilots.
"If you’re not participating in WingPoints today, now is the time to call your Phillips 66 account rep before those pilots hit the ramps," says Rod Palmer, Manager General Aviation, Phillips 66.
WingPoints rewards repeat purchases - and builds customer loyalty for FBOs - by giving points for refueling at participating Phillips 66 dealers. Every gallon purchased using WingPoints earns at least 10 points, which can be immediately redeemed for debit or gift cards online at www.wingpoints.com.
Pilots can even earn double points by using their WingPoints card with any Phillips 66 Aviation credit card. WingPoints makes it fast and easy to earn rewards, as pilots can reach their first reward level buying as little as 1,000 gallons of fuel.
And pilots don’t have to wait to earn points either. As soon as they walk into a participating FBO they can start earning points with their first purchase.
"WingPoints is a great way for our FBOs to build loyalty and repeat purchases by rewarding customers with a program that offers everything from gift cards at a favorite restaurant or online retailer to debit cards good for any purchase," Palmer explains. "And it gives the FBO a tool to incentivize pilots to purchase more fuel at your location instead of down the road at their next stop. In today’s tight economy, FBOs need all the tools they can get to retain existing customers and attract new business. The WingPoints rewards program is designed to do just this."
Phillips 66 is covering the cost for these special promotional points, as well as double points awarded for using any Phillips 66 branded credit card. If you’re not a participating WingPoints location today, call you account representative for details or go to www.phillips66aviation.com.

- Business Jet Center and Texas Jet in top 10; Survey acknowledges three other P66 FBOS
-
-
MIDLAND PARK, N.J.- One of aviation’s most closely watched surveys recognizes several Phillips 66® Aviation dealers for their strong customer service, with rankings on Aviation International News 2009 Top-40-rated FBOs in North America.
More than 2,660 pilots, plane owners and industry professionals voted in this year’s survey, which prevents ballot-stuffing with an invitation-only methodology, according to AIN. Respondents rank FBOs for line service; pilot amenities and services; passenger amenities; and facilities.
Dallas’ Business Jet Center (DAL) and Fort Worth’s Texas Jet (FTW) made AIN’s top 10 FBOs, both improving over last year’s scores. Business Jet moved up two places, while Texas Jet cracked AIN’s elite 10 for the first time.
National Jets at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International (FLL) came in 13th, while Executive Jet Center/Aero Toy Store at Fort Lauderdale’s Executive airport (FXE) and Signature Flight Support at St. Paul Downtown-Holman Field (STP) also made AIN’s Top 40-rated FBOs.
AIN noted the importance of customer service in a down economy, and the FBOs on the publication’s annual list are recognized for keeping their clients happy.
"Our FBOs in the Phillips 66 Aviation network work hard to provide a great customer experience," says Rod Palmer, General Manager Aviation for Phillips 66. "While we’re here as a resource to support their efforts, our FBOs have also taught us a great deal about exemplary customer service. People like Reed Pigman, Jr., President of Texas Jet, and Mike Wright, Founding Partner of Business Jet Center, strive to make their FBOs Best in Class.
"It takes a special commitment to become known for great service, particularly in a recessionary time when competitors are doing everything they can to build business," explains Palmer. "We’re proud of our FBOs and congratulate them on their success."
At this year’s NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Convention, Phillips 66 invited its FBO attendees to a workshop run by the Ritz Carlton Leadership Center, renowned for its customer service model.
ALEXANDRIA, VA - Professional Pilot's acclaimed annual PRASE Survey has once again named Phillips 66 Aviation as a top fuel choice for pilots, plane owners and ground crew - while recognizing several of the brand's fixed base operators and their customer service representatives as among the nation's best.
This is the 16th consecutive year that Phillips 66 Aviation was named one of the top two fuel brands in the poll. For the 2009 PRASE Survey, more than 1,740 qualified (unduplicated) respondents cast votes.
Texas Jet in Fort Worth earned the No. 1 spot on the list of the country's best FBOs, with National Jets in Fort Lauderdale ranked third and Business Jet Center in Dallas earning 10th. Texas Jet also won acclaim as the nation's Best Independent FBO.
And three customer service representatives from Phillips 66 FBOs made this year's Best CSR list.
For the second year in a row, Holly Hopkins from Texas Jet was voted No. 2 Best CSR in the industry. D.J. Korzyniewsky from Business Jet and Jenny Showalter from Showalter Flying Service also earned spots in the coveted top 10 CSR rankings.
Each year the PRASE (Preferences Regarding Aviation Services and Equipment) Survey is closely watched by the general aviation industry as an indicator of pilot and plane owner satisfaction with FBOs, ground service and fuel brands. Positive results are considered a strong measure of customer service and quality.
"Pilots and plane owners continue to recognize our FBOs and their professionals as some of the best in the country, and it is an honor to be able to work with them," says Rod Palmer, Manager General Aviation for Phillips 66. "All of us strive to provide the highest level of service for our customers. The PRASE survey results demonstrate that those efforts have paid off for Texas Jet, National Jets and Business Jet Center."

- Customer Appreciation Day proves popular at one of Florida's legacy FBOs with BBQ dinner, rewards, flying contests and fun
-
-
ORLANDO - More than 150 pilots, plane owners and their families celebrated the 2009 Customer Appreciation Day at Showalter Flying Service, which hosts the annual event to thank its clientele and build loyalty for the fixed base operator.
Customer service as always been a strong focus for the family-run FBO, says Showalter's Customer Service Manager Jenny Showalter. "We are truly blessed as a business to have people who choose to be our customers and friends," Showalter says. "A fun day of thanks - with dinner, flying contests and tours - helps us bond with our customers, and lets them know we consider them important."
During the event, Showalter Flying Service leveraged the new WingPoints® Rewards Card from Phillips 66® Aviation by handing them out to pilots as their admission "ticket" to a barbecue dinner and a raffle, explains Showalter. Winners of the flying contests and raffle were awarded thousands of WingPoints to jumpstart their accounts.
Showalter is using the Phillips 66 rewards progr?m to build repeat business with pilots, flight departments and plane owners. WingPoints can turn fuel purchases at participating Phillips 66-branded FBOs into points that are immediately redeemable for debit or gift cards at www.wingpoints.com.
Along with the barbecue and raffle, a family filled crowd enjoyed the skills competition with a flour sack drop and a spot landing contest - both sanctioned and managed by the Orlando Executive Airport air traffic controllers in exchange for some barbecue. Two pilots took home 35,000 WingPoints each: West Jones for his spot-on, spot landing and Chris Phillips for dropping a bag of flour into a target as he soared overhead.
The FBO - founded in 1945 by brothers Sandy and Howard Showalter, along with their cousin Buck Rogers - is one of Florida's oldest. Some 175 aircraft base at Showalter.
"We were able to connect with so many customers," says Showalter. "I am still hearing our customers talking about the event and asking when we're doing it again."

- Schedulers & dispatchers conference winners take home WingPoints® reward cards worth $1,000
-
-
LONG BEACH, Ca., Feb 16, 2009 - Kimberly Houtman of West Shore Aviation Management had never won anything in her life. That is until she joined the WingPoints Rewards Program with Phillips 66 Aviation - a move that turned fortuitous when Houtman won a WingPoints Rewards Card worth $1,000 at the 2009 NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference.
Another WingPoints Rewards Card - also loaded with 600,000 easily redeemable points worth a grand - was won by Randall Honea, general manager of TAC Air in Knoxville, TN.
Attendees at the recent Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference got a chance to win the pre-loaded WingPoints Rewards Card by registering for the Rewards Program. Two dozen Phillips 66-branded fixed based operators exhibited alongside the Phillips 66 aviation brand at the conference, touting their facilities and services, while registering people for the WingPoints Rewards Program.
"Our goal for the Wing Points program is to increase our field sales and encourage customers to buy more products based on the points and rewards they will receive," explains TAC Air's Honea. "The process seems to be fairly easy to use and we would like to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be a part of it. The rewards seem endless."
For Houtman, a non-commercial flight coordinator, this was the first time in 13 years of attending Schedulers & Dispatchers conferences that she actually took home a keepsake more valuable than a typical convention trinket.
The 20-year aviation professional says she enjoys her career, and likes finding out about different destinations across the globe. "It's not just about the large, known cities but learning about hidden, out of the way destinations," explains Houtman.
Houtman says her winning WingPoints Rewards Card will help pay for that cruise she's dreamt about taking with her husband.
"WingPoints from Phillips 66 Aviation is a great incentive program for flight schedulers," explains Houtman. "I shop for the best fuel prices and this program really does make a difference. It is a great factor to consider when making my decision on which fuel company to use; it helps everything tie together nicely during the work day."
WingPoints rewards schedulers, dispatchers, pilots and plane owners by providing points for every fuel purchase at participating Phillips 66-branded aviation FBOs. Points are doubled when the WingPoints Rewards Card is used with the Phillips 66 Aviation Corporate Card. Those points can be redeemed online for gift and debit cards, or donated to charity. For more information on how to earn WingPoints rewards, visit https://www.wingpoints.com.

"The convenience and security of worldwide acceptance can be a significant asset for pilots, schedulers and aircraft owners. Pilots want a card that allows them to travel with ease, and our cardholders can expect the same level of customer service and quality that people have come to expect from the Phillips 66 Aviation brand over the past 81 years."
For over 25 years, Multi Service Aviation has served the aviation industry with financial integrity, security and unsurpassed customer service, which made Multi Service Aviation an ideal choice to manage the program. That reduces the risk for pilots as they travel, since they can use this card for aircraft cleaning, landing fees, oxygen, taxes, transportation, ground power, hanger rental, hotel reservations, de-icing, charter, fees, catering - you name it - not to mention fuel, fuel additives, lubrication and maintenance."

- Phillips 66® Aviation introduces flexible, new rewards program.
-
WingPoints card provides opportunity to earn valuable perks quickly.
BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma, September 26, 2008 - Phillips 66® Aviation has launched a new, wide-ranging and highly flexible rewards program called WingPoints™.
WingPoints offers redeemable points with every re-fueling at participating Phillips 66 dealers - with the added bonus of double points when used with any Phillips 66 Aviation credit card.
"That makes it faster to earn meaningful rewards," explains Kelvin Covington, Programs Manager and Spokesperson for ConocoPhillips US Marketing. In fact, WingPoints makes it possible for participants to reach their first reward level by purchasing as little as 1,000 gallons of fuel.
WingPoints is directed not only at pilots, but also to flight schedulers, dispatchers and plane owners, all of whom can accumulate reward points with the Phillips 66 program. "WingPoints lets more people involved in General Aviation qualify for a reward program," Covington says.
With the card, every gallon purchased earns at least 10 points, if presented when refueling at participating Phillips 66 FBOs. And those points are doubled when WingPoints is used with a Phillips 66 Aviation credit card*. At 20,000 points WingPoints cardholders can earn a $25 reward; at 35,000 points a $50 reward; and at 60,000 points a $100 reward.
"Just a few flights can earn you a nice night on the town," Covington says.
Rewarding debit cards to gift cards
WingPoints offers the freedom to choose from a variety of rewards - including pre-paid debit cards accepted at thousands of locations, as well as gift cards from a large selection of online retailers and restaurants.
"Unlike other loyalty programs, the WingPoints card lets you to reward yourself with things you actually want, and can use right away," says Covington. "If used in with our Phillips 66 Aviation Cards, the WingPoints program can help you earn those rewards even faster."
In addition, the WingPoints card starts earning reward points immediately with the first transaction - long before a customer has a chance to register online. The cards are activated with the first purchase at a participating FBO. When customers finally register online, the points from any earlier transactions will already be in their new account.
Free membership, flexible program
Membership to the Phillips 66 WingPoints loyalty program is free, with a convenient enrollment process. Pilots and others can register online at www.wingpoints.com, pick up a card at participating WingPoints FBOs, or call 1-866-703-5680.
The flexibility of the WingPoints program goes beyond the rewards.
A flight department with several pilots can link all their WingPoints cards to one master account. For companies that don't allow their pilots to accept rewards, WingPoints makes it possible to pool the rewards together and earn a debit card for the company, which could then be used to buy office supplies, or the points could even be donated to a charity.
Cardholders may one day even earn instant rewards, as the WingPoints program allows customizable "trigger" messages to be printed at the bottom of receipts. "For example, Phillips 66 or even a participating FBO could run a daily contest where a purchase using WingPoints wins bonus points," says Convington. "On many levels, our rewards program is customizab?e for both the people that use WingPoints as well as our Phillips 66 FBOs."
Business driver for dealer network
By rewarding pilots, schedulers and other card holders for their brand loyalty, Covington says WingPoints has the potential to help Phillips 66 Aviation dealers attract new customers and retain existing ones. A Phillips 66 dealer participating in WingPoints may also become a preferred stop for pilots and schedulers trying to earn rewards at a faster rate, says Covington.
"We think our loyal customers appreciate freedom of choice, and that's what WingPoints delivers," Covington explains. "We've made WingPoints as flexible and convenient as possible as a reward to our customers who trust in the wings of Phillips 66 Aviation."
For more information, visit www.wingpoints.com.
*Any ConocoPhillips credit card can be used in conjunction with WingPoints to obtain double points, including Conoco, 76, Phillips 66 gas credit cards, plus all Phillips 66 Aviation credit cards.

- Three generations of family take Ohio's Tiffin Aire past 40-year mark.
-
Family Run Airport Celebrates Four Decades as Phillips 66-branded FBO
TIFFIN, Ohio, August 11, 2008 - It's taken three generations of hard work and perseverance, but one family's efforts to serve general aviation in Northern Ohio have reached a significant milestone, as Tiffin Aire celebrates its 40th year as a Phillips 66 Aviation-branded fixed base operator (FBO).
In an era when family-run FBOs are rapidly becoming the rarity not the norm, Tiffin Aire's success is worth noting. And this FBO, a quick flight from the shores of Lake Erie, is truly a family affair - from grandfather to grandson.
"Tiffin Aire is a special FBO, a business that has thrived because of the dedicated work of a family and its offspring," explains Kelvin Covington, Programs Manager and spokesperson for ConocoPhillips US Marketing.
It started with Dwight Gnepper, whose dream to run a new Seneca County Airport turned into reality when he won the bid to be its operator, and Tiffin Aire was born. Dwight's dad built the original office, even slept in a camper while the airport was constructed. Dwight's wife, Jeanne, went to work managing the office, while their children provided line services for the planes and picked the runways clean of errant stones kicked up during construction.
Two hangers and an office later, Dwight partnered with Phillips 66 Aviation, putting in a couple of 10,000-gallon fuel tanks and beginning the start of a fruitful, 40-year collaboration.
Today Tiffin Aire is run by a man who began his aviation career as a 15-year-old line tech at the airport. Brad Newman, Dwight's son-in-law, is president of Tiffin Aire, and he and his wife Kim have been operating the business since Kim's parents retired in 1989.
Three generations later, Dwight's grandson Andrew jumped into general aviation, ?elping his parents carry on a family tradition of providing a full-range of FBO services to pilots and crews. And what began as a dream could soon become four generations of reality, as a great-grandchild was born earlier this year.
Tiffin Aire has kept expanding and now offers 24-hour fuel, catering, courtesy cars, a propeller shop, charter services, aircraft sales and rentals, lubricant sales, flight instruction, de-ice boot replacement and factory-authorized maintenance for Piper, McCauley, Michelin and MT Propeller.
The airport Tiffin Aire serves features a 4,000-foot runway with a parallel taxiway, along with GPS, VOR and NDB approaches. With its close proximity to lodging, food and entertainment, Tiffin Aire and Seneca County Airport make an ideal cross-country layover for pilots and passengers.
"We congratulate Tiffin Aire on being a Phillips 66 Aviation branded dealer for 40 years, and we look forward to another 40 as future generations of Dwight's family line catch the aviation bug," says Covington.

- Phillips 66® Aviation reorganizes to offer best-in-class sales, marketing support.
-
-
HOUSTON, July 28, 2008 - Phillips 66 Aviation has announced organizational changes to its marketing and sales force, part of an aggressive commitment to fortify its customer relationships and develop new business opportunities.
"We've added considerable bench strength to Phillips 66's ability to support our powerful supply and logistics position within the general aviation industry," says Rod Palmer, Manager General Aviation for Phillips 66. "We've built an experienced, highly credible sales and marketing team, with the aviation business acumen it takes to assertively deliver on our customers' needs."
These changes, explains Palmer, signal a stronger commitment by global refiner ConocoPhillips to bolster the brand's legacy as the industry's premier fuel supplier and service provider.
Changes Start at the Top
A seasoned core of aviation industry veterans now support Phillips 66 marketing initiatives - from pilots and long-time fuel sales representatives to fuel supply strategists and business development experts. And in a move reflective of the brand's re-energized commitment to general aviation, Palmer now reports directly to ConocoPhillips US Marketing President, Clayton Reasor.
"This demonstrates senior management's dedication to the business, and sets the stage for Phillips 66 Aviation to aggressively pursue new opportunities," Palmer says.
Palmer's knowledge of fuel and supply issues runs deep. For ConocoPhillips, he was Manager, Regional Strategy & Integration for the East and Gulf Regions as well as Director of Pricing in US Marketing. Palmer also managed the company's United Kingdom LPG business, and oversaw strategy and business development efforts for the company's European downstream business.
Greg Still Named Director, Branded Sales
Marketing strategist, sales and business dev?lopment expert Greg Still has been named Director, Branded Sales, reporting directly to Palmer.
Formerly Director of Sales Development, Still brings nearly three decades worth of petroleum-related leadership to his new position, including experience as a co-founder and co-designer of the Conoco retail facility at Denver International Airport. With ConocoPhillips since 1981, Still has led strategic planning, marketing sales and management efforts for retail, wholesale and lubricants customers.
From Family-owned FBO to Phillips 66 Aviation
Twenty-five years ago Rick Duste began a long career in general aviation, taking a job at his family's FBO where he learned to fly, logging nearly 3,000 flight hours soaring over California. Those flights have landed Duste a new role as Director, Programs Development for Phillips 66 Aviation.
His responsibilities included sales management and business development in the aviation fuels and lubricants businesses, as well as relationship management with branded dealers and marketers, both branded and unbranded. A veteran of BP and Chevron aviation brands, Duste will manage and develop marketing support programs for Phillips General Aviation business unit, which handles the marketing of avfuels through Phillips 66 branded dealers and various un-branded channels. "The Phillps 66 Aviation brand has a long history in the general aviation industry" says Duste. "Our programs should make it easier for our dealers and marketers to do business with us, as well as drive business to their locations." Duste will be focusing on reinforcing existing programs as well as introducing new programs to support the business.
Aviation Veteran Named to Lead National Chain Business Unit
General aviation authority Tim Elmore will lead a new unit dedicated to serving the rapidly growing chains of national fuel dealers. "We believe the corporate headquarters of the national chains will benefit from having one primary contact at the top levels of our management," says Palmer. An instrument-rated pilot and 22-year marketing professional, Elmore most recently served as Phillips 66's National Account Manager, General Aviation.
Palmer calls the new unit a "pro-active effort" to open dialogue between the national chain headquarters and the top managers at Phillips 66. "We have the deep resources it takes to effectively meet the rising needs of the national chains," he says. "For example, the locations of our Phillips 66 terminals can become a strategic benefit for national customers."
New Supply and Unbranded Sales Position Created
In a move that capitalizes on the core strength of Phillips 66 Aviation as a major fuel producer, the company has named industry logistics pro Keith Reneau as Director, Supply & Unbranded sales, General Aviation. This is a new position for Phillips 66, created out of the growing need for a reliable fuel stream, as supplies of jet fuel and avgas contract.
"Having steadfast logistical support can be crucial in the current aviation marketplace," explains Palmer. "Keith is the best in the business at holistically tying together sales and supply strategies to develop growth opportunities for both Phillips 66 and its aviation customers."
Texas native Reneau will be directing the unbranded sales of avgas, jet fuel and military fuel, and be responsible for overall supply strategy and execution for General Aviation. Reneau is well-suited to build the aviation business for Phillips 66, with expertise in most facets of the industry including branded, unbranded, commercial and export sales. The former sales representative has worked with every major airline in the United States. He now reports to Palmer.
"The aviation business is about developing and growing strong relationships," says Palmer. "We're making an uncompromising effort to better manage those relationshi?s in a way that reflects other strong attributes of Phillips 66 Aviation. Unwavering supply, quality fuel and industry-leading customer service - these are fundamental attributes of the Phillips 66 brand promise."

- Sharing the joy of flight earns Floridian the Phillips 66® Aviation Leadership Award.
-
-
OSHKOSH, Wisconsin, July 30, 2008 - Tom Shedd loves planes and flying so much, he spent the past 13 years helping some 1,300 young people take flight, kids from all walks of life, sharing his passion for general aviation.
Shedd’s dedication to passing the torch to younger generations has earned him a special honor, the 2008 Phillips 66 l Aviation Leadership Award, presented at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin - the world’s largest gathering of pilots, flying buffs and planes.
"Somewhere along the line, someone opened the door for you and me, they answered questions, showed you the way, and we have an obligation to pass that along," the 77-year-old Shedd explains. "Every kid you fly you touch in some way. Even if they don’t end up in the industry, they have some appreciation of general aviation’s role in the community."
EAA’s Young Eagle Program was launched in 1992 with a goal to introduce young people between eight and 17 to flying in a general aviation airplane. All told, more than 1.3 million kids worldwide have taken to the air with the Young Eagles program - with the help of people like Shedd and thousands of volunteer pilots and ground coordinators. Actor and avid pilot Harrison Ford is the Young Eagle’s Chairman and he regularly attends EAA AirVenture, often to present the Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award.
And Shedd’s EAA Chapter 908 has played a vital role, helping get some 1,300 kids into single-engine planes above the scenic Florida coast and the Ft. Pierce airfield Shedd and his EAA Chapter 908 call home. Volunteers not only fly the in their own planes, they pay for the fuel.
Phillips 66 Program Offsets Young Eagles Flight Costs
The Phillips 66 Aviation program helps offset some of those avgas costs with a special rebate for Young Eagle volunteer pilots who use a Phillips 66 credit card. It is estimated that this rebate program has helped fueled flights for more than 350,000 young people.
Facilitating the Young Eagles program takes dozens of volunteers and countless hours to arrange the flights and coordinate volunteer pilots and ground crews, talk with government organizations, non-profits and schools.
Giving back to the community
The Ft. Pierce-based EAA chapter works hard to promote Young Eagles as a way to give back to the community, to the young people, explains Jim Wetzel, chapter president.
"There are few things you get rewards for instantaneously when you do a good deed, but Young Eagles flights are one of those," Wetzel says. "When you take a young person on their first flight, see them smile, their parents happy, it is one of the most rewarding things you can do. We’ve gotten letters back from parents saying their kids started doing better in school, seeking scholarships, because all they want to do now is fly."
Wetzel credits Shedd with helping make their Young Eagle program successful. "Tom is just an amazing individual, a spirited leader," Wetzel says admiringly.
Shedd caught the aviation bug in 1950 when he flew for the first time at age 19, buying his first plane just a year later. But soon the Korean War called and he put his love of flying on hold for a war zone stint with the Central Intelligence Agency.
The Vero Beach, Florida resident stepped down from his EAA duties last year due to health considerations. He still talks proudly of his local EAA Chapter volunteers and their work. Shedd boasts of a Young Eagles flier who recently graduated from the Air Force Academy.
"We’ve gone everywhere to find kids for our Young Eagles flights - churches, boy scouts, boys and girls clubs, libraries, schools, home-schooling groups, special programs for kids with challenges, drug rehab centers, you name it," says Shedd. "We find kids from as many segments of the community as possible. We’ve flown kids from Russia, South America, all over."
Flight Hobbyist Tom Shedd Awarded the 2008 Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership
ConocoPhillips’ Covington credits Shedd and the Young Eagles volunteers nationwide for inspiring kids. "People like Tom Shedd and the volunteers he works with have taken a lot of kids into the skies that might never have gotten the chance," says Covington. "That keeps general aviation alive, while fueling interest in science and engineering. The Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Award recognizes that remarkable accomplishment."
The 2008 Phillips Aviation Leadership Awards was presented at a special ceremony held at EAA AirVenture Museum's Eagle Hangar on Wednesday, July 30, 2008.
