SUN ’n FUN Fly-in Did Not Disappoint

Held every April, SUN ’n FUN is unofficially referred to as the “Aviation Season Opener” – the first major U.S. fly-in of the year. Phillips 66® Aviation was in attendance at the 43rd annual fun-filled event that kept attendees eyes turned skyward, taking in the fireworks, warbirds and aerial acrobatics airshows.

The AEROSTARS Formation Aerobatic Flight Team sponsored by Phillips 66 dazzled the crowds with two airshows performing precision loops, daunting dives and spectacular spins. On the ground, they happily chatted with aviation enthusiasts eager to meet and greet the team and learn about their aircraft.

On display right next to the Phillips 66 Tent (N-30) was the famed 1939 Plymouth Radial Air Truck. The chrome beauty runs on a huge 757 ci (12.4 L) Jacobs R-755-A2 radial aircraft engine. The truck caught the eye of many spectators who happily stopped by to snap a few pictures and chat with the owner. For those who missed it, the radial-powered Plymouth will also be on display at our tent for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.

Aviators who attended SUN ’n FUN were greeted at the Phillips 66-sponsored Welcome Center. This facility provided free wireless Internet, flight planning facilities and other flight-related services for all pilots and maintenance professionals in attendance.

Phillips 66 Lubricants Engineer, Steven Strollo, lead a well-received educational forum, “Which Engine Oils are Right for Your Engine,” at the Aerospace Center for Excellence. Strollo has hosted these highly informative sessions for ten-plus years at SUN ’n FUN and EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. SUN ’n FUN attendees also had the opportunity to speak with Steven throughout the airshow and ask pertinent questions about aviation lubricant products at the Phillips 66 Lubricant’s tent.

Plenty of attendees took advantage of special show pricing of our aviation lubricant products and as a bonus also took home Phillips 66 branded baseball hats and tee shirts.

Next stop is the can’t-miss aviation event of the year - EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin! Fly safely, friends!
