Employee Spotlight March 2021 - Meghan du Plessis

Name: Meghan du Plessis

Title: Associate Brand Director, Aviation

Location: Houston, TX

Years with Phillips 66: 7.5

Describe yourself in three words. Creative. Enthusiastic. Sincere.

What do you love most about your job? The aviation industry is exciting, innovative and constantly evolving. I love being a part of it and being pushed to think outside of the box to propose new marketing ideas for the brand. I enjoy being able to interact with our customers, help them with their marketing plans, and watch their business grow. And our sales team is the best! Working with them to connect the dots between marketing and sales has been a blast. I also really love planning and attending the events (my first love).

What’s your favorite Phillips 66-related memory? My favorite memory is my first memory – the 2013 Marketing Conference. I was initially hired to help coordinate that event, and it was a massive undertaking. I had some incredibly long days and late nights. Everything was always on fire. But the end result was 100% worth it. To see hundreds of employees and customers come together, to feel the energy of the week, and to have everything go off without a hitch – it was a wonderful experience. Not to mention, I danced on stage with Train!

What’s the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had? When I was in college, I was a news talk reporter for WTAW-AM in College Station, TX. I started out as an intern and worked my way up the ladder to eventually lead the 5 p.m. newscast. It was a wonderful experience for a college kid! I got to meet all sorts of famous folks in Bryan-College Station, including George H. W. Bush, Pat Green and Robert Earl Keen. I was also live on the scene at the Texas A&M University Bonfire collapse in 1999, and I was live on the air internationally.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love to travel and spend time with my family. In the good ol’ days we traveled quite a bit, and I’m looking forward to picking that back up. Most of my family is in Houston, so we spend a lot of time together. We love getting together and hanging out outside, grilling, having crawfish boils, etc.

What was your last vacation? Well, my husband and I were supposed to honeymoon in Italy last fall, so that’s a sore subject. I’ve never been before. It’s at the top of my list.

What’s your next vacation? We’re planning to go to Vail over Spring Break with the kids. We try to go every year. The kids are learning to ski, and it’s a beautiful spot to just unwind. Plus, there’s a restaurant on top of the mountain that has – hands-down – the best turkey pot pie in the world. It’s a highlight of Vail for us!

What are you currently reading/ binge watching? The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix. I highly recommend!

What are you inspired by? My kids and my family are my inspiration. I work hard and seeing them, makes it all worth it. I want to be the best person I can be for them.
