What do you love most about your job? First and foremost, I love the people I work with. I also enjoy the challenges the job brings. Being part of a dynamic company in an ever-evolving industry is exciting and rewarding.
Briefly describe your professional history and how you arrived at Phillips 66: I have been involved in both the aviation and petroleum industries for over 30 years and have boasted several accomplishments, from creating a new aviation program for a regional distributor to working as a sales executive for a major refiner. In 2018, I was VP of Sales for an aviation fuels company that sold to an established industry player which allowed me to look for new challenges and seek new opportunities. I sought out Phillips 66 because I always admired its strong brand, company history and long-standing commitment to aviation. I was asked to interview for a newly created position and here I am today.
What’s the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had? In high school, I worked at a local cemetery cutting grass and digging graves. I would have stayed but it was a dead-end job. 😊
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I have been a distance runner for over 40 years and ran competitively in high school and college. Today, my running pace has slowed to a jog, but I still enjoy getting out daily to log a few miles. I also enjoy cycling on local trails. A few years ago, my son and I cycled the GAP Trail that starts in Pittsburgh and continues onto the C&O Canal Trial ending in Washington, D.C.
What is your favorite place to travel? I don’t have one specific location but many, as our family has always enjoyed seeing and experiencing new places. When our kids were growing up, we would take mini vacations all over the US and Canada. This allowed them to experience things they typically would only see in their history books or learn in a classroom. A few years ago, we took a family vacation through Eastern Europe visiting Munich, Budapest, Bratislava, Salzburg Vienna, and Prague. We also took a memorable trip to Ireland and Scotland and had the opportunity to visit the town in Scotland where my grandparents lived.
What’s your next vacation? This October, my wife Lori and I will be taking a Rhine River Cruise through Switzerland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
What are you currently reading? I am an American History buff so currently, I’m reading “Our First Civil War” by H.W. Brands.
What’s a surprising fact about you? I learned to fly on a grass strip. It was thrilling taking off and landing on a short grass runway and challenging taxing after a heavy rain or spring thaw. I have not flown in a few years but hope to get back to it someday.
What are you most proud of? My daughter Morgan and my son Andrew. I am proud of their accomplishments and achievements, and the successful young adults they have become. They teach me something new every day.
